Express Entry to Canada in January 2015

How will the Program work?

Potential candidates will complete an on-line Express Entry profile where they will provide information about their skills, language ability, previous work experience, education and other details. The individuals that meet the required criteria, based on the federal economic programs for Express Entry, will be selected and placed in a pool of candidates. If the candidate does not already have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer, he or she must register with the Government of Canada’s Job Bank which will connect him or her with eligible Canadian employers. Canadian employers will also be able to view and select candidates from Canada’s updated and improved job bank to supplement their workforce.

Candidates who have already secured a valid job offer will be ranked higher in the ranking system.

It is important to note that a candidate who completes an on-line Express Entry profile may not receive an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada.

This new system has been designed in order to make the process of applying for a visa easier and faster for skilled workers that want to migrate to Canada.

What happens to existing Applications?

It is important to note that applications currently in the system or waiting to be processed will not be transferred to the Express Entry system when it opens up. Applicant’s who have already applied to an existing Canadian immigration program will need to apply separately to Express Entry to be considered under this expedited scheme.

Getting prepared for Express Entry

The final details of the program have not yet been announced, however, there are many measures that prospective candidates can take to prepare for Canadian immigration through the Express Entry program. Now is the time to start up-dating CV’s, getting references and documenting your credentials. A language test is required for the majority of immigration streams, and even if it’s not required, an applicant must demonstrate to a potential employer that they can speak the English language proficiently and understand and comply with instructions in English.

The long awaited program aims to make immigration faster, more efficient and should result in both the employers and the applicant being satisfied. It is expected that the program will attract more skilled workers to consider immigrating to Canada than ever before.
