The Fort Hill oil sands mining project is estimated to yield an average of 180,000 barrels of bitumen per day for a period of over 50 years. The project will have two main pits capable of handling 14,500 tonnes of oil sands per hour.
The project is estimated to result in $7 billion in labour income over the construction period which is expected to run until 2017. Once operational, it is anticipated that $1.5 billion will be spent annually on operating costs, $800 million of which will be annual labour income.
It is estimated that this project will generate 5,000 on-site construction jobs and 2,000 full-time jobs post-construction.
